WORKS IN CLAY

I live in Revelstoke, BC, and work in a dedicated studio at home. I love being here.

A Bit About Me

My interest in ceramics started in high school, where we had a ceramic arts program and studio. Following high school, I became an apprentice with Oz Parsons Pottery in Toronto, ON. This was an amazing experience—working in a full-time production studio.

In 1983, I received a three-year Design Arts diploma with a major in Ceramics from Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, studying under Roger Kerslake and Alek Sorotschynski. With the opportunity to continue my education for another year, I studied Visual Arts at York University. While working part- and full-time in the post-secondary IT industry, I maintained a ceramics studio and was an active member of the Durham Potters Guild.

I continued my training by attending conferences, courses, and mentorships through Fusion, the Ontario Clay and Glass Association, where I also served as a board member for two years. I participated in several group exhibitions, including Parallel Journeys: Two Mentorships (2011), Fusion Fireworks (2011, 2015), and Durham Potters Guild Exhibitions (2007, 2018).

Over the past couple of years, I have dedicated my time to working with translucent porcelain to explore how light interacts with my work. I found that mid-range oxidation firing often produced glazes with little depth, unlike atmospheric kilns (e.g., wood, gas, and soda), which create wonderfully warm and rich surfaces. I hope that translucency will bring a similar depth to my pieces. The following pages showcase this ongoing journey.
